Dear all,
On behalf of the hardworking staff team and this year’s secretariat, I am proud to announce the seventeenth annual edition of the Haganum Model United Nations (HagaMUN XVII) that will take place on the 5th, 6th and 7th of March 2027.
The Model United Nations conference is a unique gathering of students from all over the world, where current global issues are thoroughly debated and discussed. A MUN is the best opportunity for students to build confidence, to learn how to resolve conflicts, where all opinions have been heard, and most importantly, to start believing that they can make the world a better place. Furthermore, lifelong friendships are forged during the fierce debates and the well deserved breaks. Lastly, the students, who create an unforgettable experience for all the delegates, are able to develop specific skills that are useful for the future, from the admins, who learn to sit quietly and follow the debate as it escalates, to the student officers, who lead the committee and motivate the group to speak up, and to the executive staff, who take responsibility for the organization of the entire conference.
HagaMUN 17th edition will take place at the Gymnasium Haganum, which is located in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice. The International Court of Justice, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the International Criminal Court, Europol and numerous embassies are all situated in the Hague. Adding to that, the Hague is the political centre of the Netherlands. This all creates the perfect atmosphere for a MUN.
HagaMUN is an annual conference held at a school founded in 1327. For almost 700 years this school has provided exquisite education in Latin, Ancient Greek, and many more subjects to students, with the goal of turning them into critical world citizens. The Haganum boasts a beautiful neo-classical building, which is visited daily by 800 students, eager to learn something new.
To create a context for this year’s conference, the HagaMUN 17th edition will be centered around the theme: A collaborative world: Upholding international law in an age of growing unilateralism. In a world of developing tensions, upholding international law is essential to maintaining global peace. This theme encourages delegates to think critically about how they, while representing the United Nations, should respond to the growing challenge of growing unilateralism.
The executive staff of HagaMUN XVII has already begun working diligently to make this MUN conference exceptional and are therefore looking forward to welcoming you in March to the Gymnasium Haganum.
The first mailing and registration of HagaMUN 2027 will be published on the 9th of October and will contain all the necessary information. Keep this date in mind!

We look forward to seeing you at HagaMUN XVII!
Yours sincerely,
Job Kievoet,
Secretary-General of HagaMUN XVII
