Dear all,
On behalf of its many hardworking organisers, I am excited to announce the fifteenth annual edition of the Haganum Model United Nations (HagaMUN XV), taking place on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of March 2025.
The HagaMUN is a yearly conference held at the Gymnasium Haganum, a high school established in 1394 in the Hague. The Haganum has switched locations and buildings a few times over the course of its centuries-long history, finding its current location in a beautiful neoclassical building along the Laan van Meerdervoort in the centre of the Hague, with courses as Latin, philosophy and Ancient Greek still being taught to this day.
The Hague offers a unique environment for an MUN conference due to its international focus. Amongst others, the International Court of Justice, the Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons, the International Criminal Court, and the European Patent Office are all headquartered in the Hague, leading to the moniker of “International City of Peace and Justice”. Moreover, the Hague is the political centre of the Netherlands, with the parliament, the senate, and most other political offices being held here. This combination of politics and international relations attracts a large international presence, indicated by the many expats and international schools present. All of this creates an atmosphere for an MUN conference like no other.
At an MUN conference, people from all over the world come together to debate and speak about pressing global matters. This gives delegates the opportunity to take part in the political process, allowing a deeper understanding of international relations and national stances on the discussed topics. Furthermore, student officers are able to hone their leadership skills and the executive staff has the opportunity to take responsibility for the organisation of a large conference.
This year in particular, the executive staff is already hard at work setting ambitious goals for HagaMUN’s noteworthy fifteenth edition, by designing fashionable merchandise, crafting new and exciting committees, and making sure the school is ready to host over six hundred guests, to name a few examples.
This year’s theme will be Borderless Dreams: Paving new paths for children’s tomorrow. This theme will allow for our conference to cover some of the world’s most pressing matters. The children of today are leaders of tomorrow after all, and consequently many of the most innovative and disruptive ideas come from the youth; most climate activism is done by adolescents and social rights tend to be championed by younger people. Who knows which amazing new ideas the youngest generation will bring?
The first mailing will contain all necessary information for your application to this conference. The second mailing will contain further practical information relevant after acceptance. For an impression of last year’s conference, our instagram and our website have plenty of information.
We are very much looking forward to hosting you at our school for our best conference yet! Registration is possible through our website, hagamun.org. Please note that the deadline for registration is the 27th of October.
